FIFA Club World Cup: Mamelodi Sundowns announce final 26-man squad

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has announced his final 26-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off this weekend.

Themba Zwane will captain Masandawana at the tournament, while Ronwen Williams will serve as vice-captain.

Top two sides to progress

Mamelodi Sundowns will compete in Group F with Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, Brazil’s Fluminense FC, and South Korea’s lesser-known Ulsan HD FC.

The top two teams from each of the eight groups will advance to the Round of 16.

Mamelodi Sundowns will represent Africa at the expanded 32-team Club World Cup alongside Al Ahly, Esperance, and Wydad Casablanca.

Coach Miguel Cardoso selected a squad featuring 20 South Africans, two Brazilians, one Chilean, one Ugandan, one Zimbabwean, and one Namibian.

Ugandan reserve goalkeeper Denis Onyango, at 40, is the oldest player in the squad, while 19-year-old South African winger Kutlwano Letlhaku is the youngest.
