BERLIN, GERMANY: South Africa’s wheelchair tennis star Alwande
Sikhosana (25) has officially landed in Berlin, Germany, where he begins
a crucial four-tournament European campaign that could see him break
into the world’s top 14 male wheelchair tennis players and secure
qualification for the prestigious World Grand Slams.
His European tour starts on Wednesday in Berlin, before continuing to
the Swiss Open, Belgium Open and Austrian Open. Every point earned
during the tour will be vital as he looks to climb from his current world
ranking of No. 20 into the elite group of players who qualify for the
sport’s biggest stages.
Representing the South African flag on international courts, Alwande
says every match brings him one step closer to a lifelong ambition.
“Every tournament is a crucial step towards achieving my
dream of competing in the World Grand Slams and
representing South Africa,” Sikhosana said.
As he takes on some of the world’s best players, Alwande carries with
him the hopes of a nation and an opportunity to inspire the next
generation of South African athletes. His journey is a reminder that
talent, determination and resilience can take South Africans onto the
global stage.

Although he was unable to travel with his full support team due to
financial constraints, Alwande’s European campaign became possible

could make the trip and continue pursuing his international ambitions.

circumstances beyond their control. Supporting Alwande’s journey

carrying our flag onto the international stage, and we hope the

The European tour follows a successful stint in Asia, where Alwande
gained valuable ranking points and tested himself against top
